We needed to have both pressures upstream and downstream to measure the proper efficiency curve. the pressure drop was too high in an open ended sewage collector pipe which meant the downstream pressure was not at all representative to the calculated differential pressure over the pump. This gave stale / off values for the pump curves and although the most efficient control worked it wasnt optimal without knowing the precise pressure.
